There is a narrow border on all four sides, filled with wreaths of flowers and fruit. A flowery meadow fills the entire field. At the right side a group of twelve women are sheltered by a large dais. The women, apparently filled with terror, are gathered around the poet Sappho, clad in a white gown and blue mantle. Eros stands in the center, looking in their direction and drawing a bow. Another group of three women fill the left foreground. Above, Venus's dove drawn chariot passes through lilies and roses.
